MJD Campus Ministry serves tertiary-level students in the diocese through its Campus Ministry Team (CMT) comprising of full-timers and working adults; and the Melaka-Johor Coordinating Council (MJCC), a body of elected student representatives. Together we guide over 20 campus communities and plan events to form ‘a generation of Catholic tertiary students who are leaders, rooted in their faith and committed to serve the church and society’ (MJCC Vision Statement).  These include:

  1. Mission Trips, 2-week long discipleship and evangelisation in the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak to raise up a missionary culture
  2. Leadership Camps to empower committed campus students to become spiritual leaders of community living and undertake apostolic responsibilities for building up the body of Christ and the Kingdom of God.
  3. Graduates Appreciation Night to prepare the graduates for the next chapter of their lives and to affirm the Christ-like leadership that was demonstrated by them

Currently, we are supporting the Catholic Students Societies (CSS) in:

  1. CSS BASIC (UTeM, UiTM, Unitar)
  2. CSS CHRIST (MMU Melaka)
  3. CSS VJ, Segamat (UiTM)
  4. CSS ROCK, Batu Pahat (UTHM etc)
  5. CSS GIFT (BM & English), Skudai (UTM) & NMIT
  6. CSS GIFT-MCG, Skudai (UTM-Mandarin)

The established CSSes are well integrated with the local Catholic community and actively participate in the liturgy. Every week they have their own programmes like Praise & Worship, Bible sharing or Outreach.

We are increasingly reaching out and keeping in touch with Catholic students from other campuses that are in Christian Fellowships (CF) with an ecumenical character:

  1. CF Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan, Masai
  2. CF UiTM Pasir Gudang – Sept 2014
  3. CF KSKB (Kolej Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu), Kempas
  4. CF IPG Temenggong Ibrahim, Larkin (IPTI), Larkin
  5. CF Newcastle, Southampton, Reading, MMU (Nusajaya)

Finally we also recognise that there are a handful of Catholics in these universities:

  1. Politeknik Merlimau
  2. Politeknik Mersing
  3. Kolej Matrikulasi Teknikal Johor, Pontian
  4. Kolej Matrikulasi Tangkak
  5. Kolej Matrikulasi Melaka
  6. Uni KL, Pasir Gudang

Youth and Campus Malaysia Contacts

On the 13th of December 2018, the Catholic Student Society of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), namely GIFT collaborated with Ikatan Kristian (IKUTM) for Christmas Night 2018, one of the biggest Christmas celebrations in UTM.

“So let us not become tired of doing good, for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest” Galatians 6:9 was the theme of the Malacca-Johore Catholics on Campus’ (M.J.C.C)  Leaders In Training (L.I.T) Camp that was held on the 14th – 16th September 2018 at MAJODI Centre. 8 CSS and CF groups namely BASIC, CHRIST, GIFT, MCG, ROCK, FLY, EPIC, and FIRE sent committee representatives that tallied up to 66 participants in total.

Through the Holy Spirit, a two-week mission trip changed the lives of more than 20 young people who have said Yes to pursue Christ in their lives. Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) from the United States of America organised a mission trip to the Diocese of Miri from the 16th till 31st of July 2018.

Mission Leader Training

From the 19th until the 26th of January 2018, the first ever leadership training camp, Mission Leadership Training (M.L.T) for mission leaders was held by Malacca-Johore Catholics on Campus (M.J.C.C) at Barre I.J. Centre, Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands.

District Meeting

25th of November 2017 will be an important date in the history of Malacca-Johore Catholics on Campus (MJCC). More than a year ago, Bishop Bernard Paul encouraged the diocese to focus more on the vicariate level and we agreed seeing that it would be easier to coordinate fewer universities availability for meeting.

Southern Syiok 2017

The Southern Syiok is Back! On the 19th - 21st of October 2017, the Malacca-Johore Catholics on Campus (M.J.C.C) held their biennial Southern Syiok Camp with the WYD 2017 inspired theme “Greater Things”. By providence, the date for the camp fell on the public universities’ mid-term break thus a total of 150 campus students from 16 campuses in the Malacca-Johore region were able to participate in this camp with a few other students from other dioceses also participating.

The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness. From the 30th June until 14th July 2017, 19 students from CSS (Catholic Students’ Society) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Skudai, Johor Bahru, also known as GIFT (Growing In Faith Together) went to Pensiangan, Sabah for a mission trip.
