The Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) welcomes the call by the Prime Minister on 17 June 2014 for the Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS) to abide by the decision of the Attorney General not to prefer any charges against the Society in relation to the raid on its premises by officers of the Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) on 2 January 2014.

I write to you on behalf of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), a worldwide fellowship of churches representing 42 million Baptists in 121 countries, to let you know that the Baptist family stands in solidarity with you during these days that precede the hearings of your appeal against the court ruling in October of 2013 banning the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims.

Bible Society of Malaysia regrets to announce the raid of its offices by JAIS. During the raid, JAIS seized 320 copies of the BM Bible and 10 copies of the Bup Kudus, the Iban Bible. JAIS also arrested BSM President Mr Lee Min Choon and its office manager, Mr Sinclair Wong and brought them to the Damansara Police Station. Mr Lee and Mr Wong were released on bail after 2 hours and required to see JAIS officers on 10 January 2014.

Masyarakat Kristian di Malaysia merasa amat sedih dan kecewa dengan keputusan Mahkamah Rayuan dalam mempertahankan kuasa Menteri untuk mengharamkan penggunaan kalimah Allah di dalam penerbitan Herald.
