Position: Research & Documentation Officer
Location: MAJODI CENTRE, Plentong, Masai, Johor

KEY AREAS OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, you will provide overall guidance and leadership in the areas of Research, Documentation and Knowledge Production, Management & Dissemination.

You will also be expected to work with Strategic Consultant(s) appointed by MPI for overall or specific projects. While you will receive all help in relation to the research projects of MPI, you will be solely accountable for the planning and performance of the research arm of MAJODI, which you will be in charge of.

Broadly, you will coordinate research and the dissemination of research findings to parishes and ministries, other diocese, community and civic organisations / practitioners and other project partners. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop a practical cataloguing (library) system. Curate, organise and maintain documentation of relevant information resources (newspaper, articles, pictures, videos, manuals, information pacts, ppts, audio files, etc.) from various sources (including research documents produced by MPI). • Keep an easy filing system for easy filing and retrieval of information for deployment and action. Evolve a computerized system of information management (Electronic filing and backup system).
  • Understand the parishes and diocese to plan and execute research activities. This will involve some travels and community engagement work. You should be able to engage with Civil Society organisations as well as Inter-faith and ethnic groups. You are expected to build collaborators and partnerships that will help you in your research projects.
  • Carry out well-planned research projects. You will be expected to produce critical case studies / stories for MPI to plan its activities / programmes. You should be familiar with qualitative and quantitative methods. You should also be familiar with community and action-based participatory approaches too.
  • Support the assessment of a situation or trend in coordination with parish and ministry heads to further understand ground realties as it unfolds.
  • Carry out clear agenda-driven meetings on research with stake holders that are properly documented and followed up. • Run basic research training programmes for parish and community level individuals and organisations.
  • Bring out regularly online or printed collections on key themes, research papers, trend reports, periodic bulletins, monographs, reports, etc.
  • Develop a practical SOP of the R & D arm of MPI i.e. work process related to your responsibility.

WHO DO WE NEED?

  • A bachelor degree in Social Science, Humanities, Community Development or Social Work
  • Bilingual -- English and Bahasa (essential). Knowing other languages will be an advantage.
  • At least 3 years hands-on experience in research, production of case studies/stories, and documentation • Excellent people skills, including communication and writing skills.
  • Publications would be an advantage
  • Proficient in MS Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Driving skills necessary.
  • Basic design abilities would be an advantage
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to provide nurturing leadership

YOUR EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • This is a full-time position (40 hours / week).
  • This position is project based and lasts for three years from 01 May 2019 to April 30, 2022, with the possibility of renewal.
